@thaiwin61733 years ago I would said "clicky, all day everyday" but 12 months into quarantine with 3 other mechanical keyboard users, I have reevaluated my life decisions. 773

@vaxtrixradicalbro42953 years ago I was legitimately shocked as to how silent they were. I really thought the video was accidentally muted. 431

@grizzay40973 years ago I gotta be honest, that's most quietest keyboard build I've ever heard. 132

@bochicoine92693 years ago Thanks for making this! Really helpful video, especially the part where you are testing the keys in a silent environment. A lot of other videos I found dont do this as well as you did it. 5

@brandonrng3 years ago finally a keyboard that doesn’t sound like every other keyboard video lol… love these silent switches can’t wait to build my own! 92

@justinhille81513 years ago Thanks for actually giving comparison sounds! So many reviews completely leave this out and make it impossible to determine how silent the switches are. A decibel reader would make this even better. 20

@RaidenCraftlast year Thank you for this video! I just got these switches for my Keychron Q10 and I’m blown away with how quiet and smooth they are! I was expecting a mushy feeling but it’s so satisfying to type on them!

@zed80803 years ago Well spoken. Great audio. Good transitions. You don't have to go on so much about being a newbie (maybe say it once), you did a good job getting the info out there. And yes, please use the DB meter. 2

@ph0roggy3 years ago silent switches need more love.
they kinda grow on you. the rubber dampeners feel funny at first, but when you lube them, they feel so much s m o t h e r.
good in depth analysis, haurjie !

@ksaweryglablast year This is some awesome build - Silent Alpacas L+F are super quiet - I rock them in my Iron160 plum but I also have another silent build on Mode 80 e-white with tactile Gazzew Boba U4 Silent L+F and I must say I like the tactility more - surprising. ... 1

@yaej3 years ago gOD i am so stoked i have my silent alpacas lubed and filmed, keycaps are waiting at the post office to be processed and delivered, and i'm waiting on a gmmk pro reservation. i might consider building another keyboard that is more focused around having a nice sound and smooth typing experience than a quiet and smooth typing experience to use during the day at home.
my mom has insomnia so i don't want her hearing me use a super loud keyboard while she sleeps that constantly wakes her up even though she works a non-stop 9-7 day.
    thanks for the video :D

@Shookie3 years ago I came here to check out the most silent keyboard switches, but ended up getting myself a couple of those blanket stands first (I work as a voice actor, so thanks for that suggestion).... This video's great for us "intermediate-beginners". I am on a mission impossible trying to find a full-sized keyboard with: nordic layout + most silent switches + double shot PBT-keycaps + lighting options (RGB or something like that). A difficult mission, for sure. I have tried a lot of available switches, I've yet to find any that beats MX Silent-switches, until now. It should be stated that I am located in Europe, so I don't have the luxury to try out all the keycaps that exists. And with that, the most silent keyboard I have tried out, are the Corsair ones with MX Silent Red-switches (currently using an old Corsair Strafe Gaming with MX Silent Reds), but while it's full-sized, quiet + it has 1 static lighting option, it's utterly difficult finding ds PBT-keycaps for the keyboard, and thus, my mission is still not complete. But, seeing this video, gives me hope that it's possible to find an even more quiet keyboard! However, that said, it seems that MX Silent Reds are about as quiet as I can get over here, unfortunately. I doubt I have the patience nor the skills to make me a keyboard, so I'll have to rely on buying a complete keyboard... But yeah, one very interesting video, underrated youtuber and also one I can relate to. I gotta check out your other videos too. Subscribed. ...

@samuelgoldwynsimangunsong52083 years ago good lord I really thought the volume quality worsen during the typing part and i tried to up my volume..i did not expect the sound to be that "low".. Nice recommendation,

@AZ-id1oo3 years ago Hey thanks for this video. I love your data-focused approach. Here's my feedback based on my own testing.
    1) The uncomfortable sensation you described of bottoming out and hitting the aluminum plates is very significant.
    > I built this keyboard to be as quiet as possible and not disturb my wife at night (happy wife = happy life). However, I will not be using it during the daytime. If you type all day for 10hr/day, after 2-3 days, the discomfort adds up.
    2) Films do not reduce noise with these switches.
    > I tried both (films/no films) and had several people assess any difference. They cause the switch to produce a different type of sound, but the feedback I got was that the noise level was identical. Not worth it if your goal is to reduce noise, but may be worth it if you like the wobble reduction.
    3) Lubrication does not reduce noise, but improves the experience.
    > I measured with my meter and captured peak amplitudes with a bunch of trials. Not worth the time if your single goal is to reduce noise. It is worth to do if this is your hobby, but does not result in noise reduction.
    4) Long keys could be a problem
    > One thing I wished I saw in your video was how you handled long keys like spacebar, enter, shift, back. They are discernibly louder in your video, and also the only keys that show spikes on my meter. Keyboards have different mechanisms for handling stabilization of long keys - some have just the metal bar with hooks, others have a connector that moves in a chamber on both sides attached to the bar, etc. I still haven't figured out how to fix this problem, would be interested in your approach.
    5) Closing note: Alpaca Silent Linears are made in TX and there's a nation-wide shortage in North America, but you can still buy at a markup (about 2x) from Australia.

@ksaweryglab10 months ago I have tested my Mode 80 FR4 plate build with the following lubed and filmed silent switches: Gazzew Boba U4 Silent, Silent Alpacas, ZealPC Roselios.
Silent Alpacas are the most quiet ones, then Boba U4S and just slightly louder Roselios. Silent Alpacas compared with other 2 are much quieter.

    @countduckula99773 years ago Hi,
    Wonderful video.
The character keys sound lovely & silent bar the only spacebar, which is deafening in comparison.
Thanks for pinning the time stamps, but if you were to copy them into your information area [listing your workstation & other details] YouTube should mark them onto the time ribbon of your video.
I am impressed with how quiet this mechanical keyboard is.

@becomeabetterprogrammer36133 years ago Hi, thanks a lot for your video.
I'm also new in the world of custom mechanical keyboard. It is very tricky at the moment. However, I'm looking to get a 60 mechanical keyboard that is quiet.
I haven't found much info whether it is possible to make an anne pro 2 have the alpaca silent switches. I was wondering if that's something you could check. I'm looking for a very silent mechanical keyboard for my videos as well as I'm a heavy typer.
On top of that, I'm looking to customize the switches but I wonder if I have to do any soldering. If possible, I want to avoid doing that and preferably just swap the switches to get them silent but also keep the mechanical experience.
I saw that by lubing it will decrease the noise, but is it possible to lube them without doing any soldering.
I apologise in advance for some of the terminology or something sounds dumb as I'm very new in this world or custom keyboards.
    Looking forward to your response.
By the way, the keyboards on this video seem like the option that I want but on 60% and a little more affordable. I'm not sure if I feel comfortable paying about $500 for a keyboard at the end of the day.

@ericfayhuynh3 years ago love the sound of silent alpacas. Maybe have a comparison to other silent linears like gateron ink v2 silents, Cherry mx silents, helios/sakurios/roselios, and maybe throw in tactile silent zilents. 28

@ianlutnl3 years ago Okay Haurije, a little piece of advice: after the typing test, give us a warning to lower our volume. because people will have to raise their volume quite a bit in order to hear the keystrokes, but they won't know when you'll start talking again but once they do it's already too late. ... 6

@kennith.3 years ago Thank you for all the effort you put into this video. I am very inexperienced with mechanical keyboards and have not built my own. My experience is basically youtube reviews and then going to mechanical keyboard shops to purchase them. I have noticed a lot of content creators lubing all components band aiding the stabilizers. Since I looked a couple years ago there has been a lot of new switches besides the std Cherry Red, Blue and Browns. Now I see a lot of silent variants coming on the market. I personally prefer light linear silent. My question are, if people want silent why not just get Topre instead of trying to make noisy mechanical switches "silent"? They are taking a noisy component and then having to modify it to become silent using O rings and lube ect. Maybe it is because there are not Topre switches? I have seen some clone boards from Niz. These Silent Alpaca switches, have you been able to compare them to a topre / topre clone board? Cost to build a custom is about the same price as a Topre fully assembled board? With quarantine and multiple keyboard clicking all day long ... ...

@Fellow_Gamer3 years ago Hey Haurjie, I've noticed in the comments that you recommend some other brands now for some of the components that went into your silent keyboard build. With that being said, do you still stand by the Alpaca switches? I'm trying to build a silent keyboard myself, but seeing how silent mechanical keyboards are still very niche, and there isn't a lot of YouTube content comparing all the silent switches on the market, I'm left wondering which one is truly the most silent. I've also heard good things about the Durock Silent Linear Switches and the Gazzew Bobagum. Have you had any experiences with these other silent switches and what's your opinion on them? Thanks! ...

@Kettz9 months ago i'm considering investing in this build, it looks great. i'm curious how much quieter the keys are compared to an office mesh keyboard. its totally worth it if it really is nearly silent, even at 150-170 wpm
  • @
@jaked56372 years ago if you're a heavy typist will a higher actuation force switch help soften the hardness of bottoming out? or will it be more on plate material?
  • @
@dragonkid5253 years ago Have you had any compatibility issues with using the other non-aluminum plates with your hotswap PCB for the mode80? From the website I'm seeing that some of the gaskets for the other plate options are meant specifically for the solderable PCB, so just curious. ...

@amizan86533 years ago That is the quietest keyboard that I've ever heard in my life, that's for sure. Not a fan of quiet switches though. • @
@danah5523 years ago Wow, I didn't realize people built keyboards like they used to build computers. LOL I'm not wanting to get into building keyboards per se. I just want a very silent keyboard. The cheap verbatim i have now is truly silent, but the keys keep getting stuck and the batteries only last a month. So, I'm willing to spend more for quality and I'm willing to plug it in. I would prefer a full keyboard with keypad, but if that's not possible, I'm willing to get a separate keypad. So, how can I do this in the simplest way? If those alpaca switches are the best to get, where would I get the keycaps assuming the keyboard or switches don't come with keycaps? And, is it possible to get a full keyboard rather than just 60 or 80%? My budget is up to about $200 total for the whole keyboard. It seems like there are hot swappable keyboards of all kinds out there, but how do i tell which ones would work with the alpaca switches? and how can i determine if the plate is a softer material? Thank you. ...
