THIS WEEKS RECIPE: How to make Easy Finnish meat pies
Ingredients
Servings: 12-15
Dough:
2.5 Teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
1 ¼ Cup Lukewarm Milk (3dl)
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Egg
½ Cup Sugar (1dl + 1 Tablespoon)
4 Cups Flour (10dl)
½ Cup Melted Butter (100g)
Filling:
1 lb. Ground Beef (450g)
2 Cup Chopped Onion (5dl)
1 Teaspoon Black Pepper
½ Cup Dried Parsley (1dl + 1 Tablespoon)
1 Cup Cooked Rice (2.3dl) (White Rice)
Directions
Oven Temperature: 400ºF (200ºC)
Time: 20 min
1. In a large bowl add all the ingredients of the dough and kneed it into a smooth slightly sticky dough then cover it with a cloth to double in size, approx. 45 min
2. When the dough has risen for 45 min start with the filling
3. On medium heat in vegetable oil cook the ground beef with the onion until the ground beef is no longer pink, you don’t need to brown it.
4. While you are cooking the meat add the black pepper and parsley,
5. When the meat is no longer pink add the cooked rice and combine it. Then set aside
6. Take the dough and roll it out on a flat surface and cut out rounds about 4 inch (10 cm) large circles and brush little water on the outside edge
7. Fill up every dough circle and then fold the dough over the filling and press together the edges
8. Bake the pies in the oven for 20 min, you can brush them with some butter before placing them in the oven.
9. When you remove them from the oven brush the pies with butter to keep them soft
10. Done! Enjoy
