Diary breeding: Nyeri farmers trained on animal husbandry

With over 400,000 smallholder dairy farmers producing more than 70% of marketed milk in the country, there is need to frequently keep them informed on various methods of increasing productivity whilst maintaining low production costs. Last week the standard media group’s Farmkenya initiative in counjunction with various other partners held a three days training workshop in Nyeri county which sought to educate dairy farmers on various topics including feed formulation and supplementation. the farmers received expert advice from organizations such as Kevevapi, the dairy goat association of Kenya, the Kenya animal genetic resource center kagrc, sidai africa limited, Kenya dairy board and the county government of nyeri. Dairy farming is Kenya’s largest agricultural subsector contributing to about 14% of the gross domestic products in agriculture. RUN VCR
