This video is about how to cook the delicious "Watermelon rind Kootu". In vegetarian south indian cooking Kootu is the most irresistible side dish. That too prepared with watermelon rind is very authentic dish.
This kootu is made from the Greenish white part residing between the fruit and it's hard exterior skin. Aslike watermelon fruit part, this part too have lot more health benefits with it.
Ingredients: {Serves - 4} {Cooking time - 30mins}
Watermelon rind - 500gms (2 cups)
Green gram / Paasi paruppu - 50 gms (1/3 cup)
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds / Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Sambar powder - 1 tsp
Onion (big) - 1 no.
Garlic pods - 2 no.
Tomato - 2 (medium size)
Green chilly - 1 no.
Seasoning onion vadagam - 1.5 tsp
Oil - 2 tsp
Salt & Water
For seasoning i have added Karivadagam, which is called as seasoning spicy onion vadam.. This gives nice aroma for the kootu and it makes people eat more even those who doesn't like kootu recipes. if it is not available with you, add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
